why is swearing filtered in PMs?

why is swearing filtered in PMs?
i just sent one and received one and it came up as ****. PMs are just that, Private. why do they have a filter?

i'm not looking at getting banned here or raising a fuss. i was just curious.

I'm not sure if its possible to turn it off for PMs. We've actually been discussing the word filter in the staff section recently, so something might be changing with it soon.

I believe since there is no age restrictions even sending a PM is censored because it may directed at a minor.

Don't know if that's the reason, it's just a thought

EDIT: Trent types too fast

i imagine it has more to do with the software.. Such as its either on everything or its off everything.
