John,
Why do you say that the lights need an "Amber" reflector? My daily driver, a '90 Oldsmobile has clear corner markers, chrome-ish reflectors and amber light bulbs... The same exact setup that these are. I can't imagine the old lady I bought if from did a "mod" like that, so it would have to be stock, and DOT approved right? Is there some sort of grandfather clause that goes with the regulations you quoted?

Take another look. You'll find an amber reflector, from the factory somewhere up there, even if it's not on the corner. Required BY LAW and all manufacturers comply. It doesn't NEED to be on the corner.
However, the Ranger integrates it into the corner lamp. So, to get approval for replacement of the OEM, the replacement must also integrate it.
Don't confuse the need for a reflector with the location of it. The situation is similar for rear lighting. They MUST have a red reflector somewhere back there, either on the light or near it somewhere. If the original had it in the lamp, the DOT replacement must ALSO.
Edit: By the way, don't confuse "reflector" here with the chrome parabola-shaped area behind the bulb. I mean a "passive reflector" like a bicycle reflector -- something that reflects light directly back at the source. All the ones in automotive use are "cubicle-corner retroreflectors) that have little cubic shapes cut into them. Such a device reflects the light back at the SAME angle it comes in at.

Doesn't matter if they are side markers OR turn signals. The PASSIVE reflector is a requirement, and it MUST be amber.
But like you, I have clear corners and no amber reflector. I obviously don't care much about it either.
But, that's the story -- the are NOT DOT and that's my point -- not that you shouldn't use them. I've already decided that for myself.
Some inspection people will fail vehicles for that. I have a set of stick-on amber reflectors made from round amber ones used for marking driveways backed with "refrigerator magnet" material. They stick nicely to the fenders just behind the corner lights, lol. Instant legal reflector.

It's a FEDERAL standard the states have to "comply" with. However, it has no real "teeth" as it's not followed up on at the Federal level, except to occasionally prosecute importers. APC (the popular aftermarket auto accessories company) lost a case a few years ago and had to pay quite a bit over their sale of taillights without legal red reflectors that are required. They are much more careful these days.
I'll say it again because I must not be making myself clear: this is a PASSIVE REFLECTOR that is required and has NOTHING to do with the color of the bulb. Do not get the two issues confused. White bulbs ARE legal for markers in the front FEDERALLY, but states can REQUIRE amber bulbs (as if it wasn't confusing enough...)
What IS illegal in front is ANY color but white and amber. Blue, etc. are not legal.

Has anyone seen these? They say that they have chrome housings. They look kind of white in the picture though. Has anyone ordered them yet?
