Paypal complaint

So.. I logged on to paypal for the first time in a little while to send some money to a fellow member on here for some parts.

Used to be you could send money as a personal gift and it wouldn't cost anything. Now, in order to send it for free, you have to send it from your bank account or from your paypal balance. Problem with that sending from your bank account is... now it takes 3-5 business days to process that "e-check". If you want to transfer money from your bank to your paypal account to send it from your paypal balance, you again have to wait 3-5 business days.

If you want to send it via credit/debit card and have it go through right away.. you have to pay the fee, and it doesn't let you choose the option of gift so it's not free anymore.

I guess I'm just irritated by this because I occasionally send money home to family as I am in CA and they are in IN to sometimes handle things there that for me that I cannot take care of... so this is my vent thread I guess.

So.. just a heads up to people wishing to use paypal on here or other places for transactions... you can now expect an annoying delay in sending/getting your money, and having your purchase shipped to you... unless you want to pay the fee that you once could avoid. Unless you want to plan ahead a week and have money in your paypal balance.

It's really more irritating that you have to wait or get charged to send it to someone you trust... like family.

I can understand why you would not send it as a gift... for the buyer protection and all that. I'm just annoyed I guess by the inconvenience.

That's odd, because if you do it with the mobile app, sending as a gift with an instant transfer from your account, it doesn't charge you. I just did this a couple of days ago.

he's talking about with a credit card, not from existing balance. if you don't have any already in paypal, you either use credit card for instant (with a fee) or wait 3-5 days for a bank transfer.

I understand what he meant. I did it with an instant bank transfer, not a balance transfer. I didn't get charged, and neither did the recipient. Again, I did it through PP mobile, and the gift option was there.

Noticed the same thing last week. Picked up an ohc off of another forum and paid via paypal.
There was no way I could find, to use the CC without paying the $3 something fee...

not to be bustin your ***** or anything but again this isn't what he's talking about. You did not use a CC, and bank transfers have no fees. And they are not instant, they do take 3-5 days to process. Depends on the bank I guess but instant bank transfer seems an inaccurate description.

There are 3 payment options... credit card, existing balance (from a bank transfer of 3-5 days or payment), or an e-check (bank transfer of 3-5 days)

No, I completely understand. I've been using PayPal since they started.

They have what's called "instant transfer" from your bank account. The money gets to the recipient immediately, even though it doesn't instantly come from your bank account. This is what I did on Monday of this week, using the gift option, and neither myself, nor the recipient were charged a fee.

The only thing I can think of is that PayPal does not allow instant bank transfers if you don't have a verified credit card on file as a backup funding source.

I noticed that too, Paypal was my secret stash way of buying things online without my Financial manager (my fiance) knowing. I went to send money to someone the otherday and it did that dumb e-check thing, furthermore it took it almost 2 weeks to complete the transaction.
What a pain in the butt, I guess i'll have to stick to cash.

I've never dealt with any e-checks and my "gift" option is still available with no fee but i always have them take money from my bank account

The only thing i can think of is that my CC was expiring this month. I updated the info on it, but still no option for sending as a gift directly from bank account... I dont care about it taking a couple days gor it to come out of my account but i want the seller or recipient to be paid immediately... But it was saying he wouldnt receive it until the 11th-13th. I can send it immediately with CC but then it wanted to charge me

So would a way around this be having a balance in your PP account that is more then the balance of said item that way, there is no transferring money to your PP when you need it.

Like Ryan you said you send home cash every so often. When you do, top up the PP account for the next time. That way, the time between the two transactions becomes that processing time.

Just another way we get boned by evilBay & PaidPal

I hate sending an e-check because it takes several days to clear & I never keep any $$ in my PP balance, so I end up paying the extra fees to fund using a credit card.
