I got a CB mount from Alon and when I got it I was happy with the craftsmenship and the quality of the product.

I then installed it and plug the CB and to my suprise it didnt work. So RangerMuse who bought one from him as well had the same problem and took his into a CB shop.

We figured out that the holes that Alon drilled in the mount where the wrong size. They needed to be 1/2in and they where drilled at 3/8.

So I got out the drill and fixed the problem. It now works great.

So if anyone just bought a mount from Alon you are going to have to fix it.

 

How did the size of the drilled holes make the cb not work?

ok, basically, the hole i drill for the antenna is big enough for the antenna to go through. On some of the antenna hardware, they intend for this little rubber piece to go inside the hole to isolate the antenna.

Basically, I lost my little rubber piece, forgot it came with it and drilled out the holes to fit just the antenna.

Changes have already been made, we may now return to our previously scheduled program

 

The antenna stud was being grouned out by the Alon's mounts. He drilled a 3/8 hole when it need to be a 1/2. There is a little nylon washer with a shoulder that fits in the hole.

 

but to make a thread about it,why didn't you just call him,oh well my 02 once more,i just do not know the whole story or the situation i am sure if you could have called him and taken care of the situation you would have

 

eh..small mistake. really, a no biggie.

 

Yea it really was not a problem at all, I need to get pictures of mine up for alon and everyone else looks great.

Alon was great to work with and the shipping was really fast.

Well its kinda of a big deal when it comes to your mounts. The mount did not work when we got them and if Ory hadent taken his to a CB shop then who knows what amount of time and money would have been spent trying to get these CB's working.

All I know is that every thing is now working.

 

You run the risk of frying your radio if it's not setup properly. I see a point to this thread and to that I thank you Jake.

 

ok...maybe a no biggie to me to drill out the hole 1/16 or 1/8 bigger or whatever for the isolater to fit. of course...i'd make sure everything was correct before turning on the radio. I see a point to this thread. **** happens. mistake on alon's end.

 

All is good. Just wanted to let people know that may not have. Its really no biggie to drill a hole. Just use a fast drill, and alot of drill oil. Took us a few minutes because the steel was so damn hard and thick.

this is a big deal. I had this problem on my mount too and ended up drilling it out for myself. Once the hole is made the right size, the mount works great!

Had this thread been up before, I would have save a ton of time trying to figure it out, lol, I didn't think about the antenna grounding out in the mount until I started testing the cables and noticed it always came up bad! thanks Jake
