This has me irked...
I have a 2.3 L 8 spark plug engine like so many others here and we can all agree its not a racing engine correct? Well I've observed this ad in my local kijiji classifieds and a guy is trying to sell his ranger.....
1998 Ford Ranger - Barrie Pickup Trucks For Sale - Kijiji Barrie
As you can see the truck seems to be in good shape with some custom work done to it, thats fine but a "Ford Racing Engine"?
I mean come on the lima's great, durable and dependable, but to mention the word race in the same sentence as 2.3 L is outrageous! Unless of course you've turbo'd it or done the turbo engine swap, that's much different. I emailed the seller and asked him this:
"Hi, i'm curious as to how its a racing engine? any mods done to it? thank-you!"
to which I was responded to by the seller with...
"Ford put put out a racing engine in the early 90's with 4 cyl. and 8 spark plugs and this is the engine that is in this truck. Can only tell you that it rides great, just like a new one, and looks just as new."
What do you guys think of this? I hate to think that someone is going to lay down money on this expecting a fun fast truck and end up with a "fastish" looking reliable but relatively gutless vehicle. Is this a case of ignorance and actual belief its a racing engine or a bold faced lie? I would assume the later....Discuss!

there is a 4 cylinder circle track class that allot of guys use the 2.3. there is quite a bit of go fast parts out there to build a nasty little n/a motor or a turbo motor. but by the looks of under the hood there is nothing special about that peticular motor.
idk i know around here they run n/a
yea most track cars run n/a it seems because theres no turbo class. atleast not around were i live. But too say its a racing engine? Just bugged me lol and i thought some of you might get a chuckle out of it. I should sell and list my truck as a "ford racing engine" it has 8 plugs, stock header and a cone filter! I kinda feel like putting the guy in his place but at the same time its not my business.

my 1st gen had a somewhat "built" 2.3 motor in it and i didn't even call it a racing motor
cam....valves...and some port work and she could scoot but i wouldn't have called it a racing motor
seller is talking out his ***

just to clarify yes the 87 and 88 t-birds were intercooled IHI turbo, while 84,85,and 86 mustang svo's were intercooled as well with a Garrett T3. The merkur xr4ti and earlier t-birds as well as mercury cougar xr7's were not intercooled.
What has me irked is he spelled brakes "breaks", spark "spak"... but spells meticulously right? wtf? Over 10k invested... my ***. He is asking 4750 firm and not a penny less.... yet 2 days ago it was 4900 firm, not a penny less. how retarded is this guy?
I have to agree, its probably the dumbest thing done to a front end of a ranger....Also $10,000? I'm a true believer that a truck isn't worth how much money you've put into it. I could say I've put a lot of oil, gas, air filters, air in the tires at a local gas station and that could add up to a lot of money..... lol This guy is out of his tree.
ok so i did a little research cuz the thought of this calling it a racing engine bugged me. so i found this website that talks about things you can do to ur 2.3 and it gives differnt levels this. this guy has done a few minor things to it. take a look

the problem here is the guy is claiming ford put out a racing engine from factory, which is a totally false statement. And I frankly do not see the point of spending a lot of money fixing up a 2.3 when you could throw a 5.0L or a 2.3 Turbo engine in for a fraction of the cost and end up with more horsepower in the end. Just my $0.2
