Del Mar Tuff Trucks 2009 - Raced My Truck - VIDEO ADDED!
I can officially call my truck a Race Truck now.
Last Tuesday I took it down to the San Diego County Fair at Del Mar and raced in their Tuff Trucks event. The turn out was amazing with 55 truck racing. I entered in the "Pro/Open" class since I have links, a cage and what not. Even though I was out classed severely I didn't feel right racing in the stock class with trucks that cost less to build than my rear axle.
The course was pretty tough, sort of, well the one section of death whoops was anyway. And it was loaded with tight turns.
On our first run I came out of the gate moving and totally overshot the first corner missing a jump, twice. This cost me 20 seconds worth of penalties. We finished in 39 seconds, with an adjusted time of 59 with penalties.
Second run, with nerves out of the way went better. We hit every obstacle, but also clobered three cones, for 15 seconds of penalties. We did this one in 40 seconds, with it being 55 seconds with penalties.
Third run was the best. For ****s and giggles I ran it in 4wd (High). We hit every obstacle and didn't hit a single cone. The run was slower, but clean. It was great. We made it around in 41 seconds.
Best part, took the truck home with not a single broken part! (that I know of yet anyway)
To put times in perspective, the winner of the "Pro/Open" class was a ProLite that did it in 31 seconds. Amazing.
We held our own in a class against a Trophy Truck, Pro-4, Pro-Lite, MDR Champion, and all kinds of stupid V8 trucks. Sure we didn't win, or come close, but we didn't make fools of our selves and didn't DNF. I'll call that a win.
If I would have had another 50 hp we could have shaved off probably a solid 5 seconds. I was running foot to the floor and had nothing. It's pretty bad right now. Oh well.
On too the photos! Obviously I didn't take any since I was in the truck, but I did find these, taken by One Premier, Jeff Young, and posted on Dezert Rangers. Hopefully I can get the rest from him later, he said he's got about 50 or so.
I also have video of every run I'll post later as well as on board video from a GoPro we borrowed.
I'll post more photos and videos as soon as I get a chance.
Anyway...

V8. I think the 4.0 has had it. I'm going to try a couple things though like check out the cats, get a muffler on it, and service the trans. Hopefully that will help get some juice back.
Possibly, I love racing, but its expensive and hard on vehicles and people. So we'll see.
I smashed up a skid plate, is that good enough? lol
