any type of safety light, rear lights, brake lights, headlights, turn signals, side marker lamps are required on all vehicles sold in the U.S after 1963 or somewhere around that year. it's DOT required.
just like all cars must have a rear red reflector on the back. (most are in the housing of the tail lights. sometimes, you see them on the bottom bumper.

Who cares, you'll never get pulled over for that. A lot of the minitruck guys with lights like that shave them off completely. Speeding is illegal, you never speed?

I would have gone with all new 06+ lights or polishing what you already have. not a fan of the blackouts, it was cool back in the 90's when car bras where in style. the internal black headlight mod is a different story but the blacked corners look like dookie. if your trying to get rid of some shine, paint that chrome bumper and let me know how it goes. I really want to do mine.
