HAIL Carnage...

If you give the shop the 'harassment' feeling, theyll get in a hurry and it might get butched out to get it out of there. Just let him know up front that you are kinda picky about the car and they can keep that in mind while they are doing it. If it starts taking an unreasonable amount of time, then a call is your best option. Stopping by unannounced will just earn you ridicule behind your back.

BTW, before people think im talking out of my ***, I work for DuPont, Ive worked for a body shop in the past, I have written insurance estimates, I have worked for a paint store as well. I also can paint, and at this moment i am sitting in a hotel room in northern California getting ready to spend the rest of the week training painters with an installation of our Spies Hecker paint line with our team of techicians. So in a nutshell, yes, i have experience from many many sides of the auto body industry. Just because your car has been painted does not mean its a POS now. If it bothers you that much, its an excuse to start to play with custom paint if you so wish.

You and I are on the same page then . I work at a dealership that not only does service work but we fix wrecked Harleys. Little different scale but you think automobile customers are pickey...HAHAHA

lol thats how picky I am with my ranger! and when I drop it off I'm in no hurry to get it back, I'm not the harassing type... I'm going to drive my moms car and she will get a rental...
I'll get back to you on what paint the shop uses, thought most of them use PPG

i would be damn picky About it, its an almost new truck... a little story about 20 years ago my parents had an 85 ranger, and one night a drunk driver decided to drive thru the quarter panel of it, it was in the body shop for 8 months... actually 3 different body shops in that time. the first time it was gone for about 3 months, we got it back, and first noticed that nothing fit right on it, the paint had horrible amounts in the paint, they forgot to put inner fender wells back in it, had an even worse ranger lean than stock, and the color match was horrible. the second bodyshop did a nice job of putting it back together, but the color match was less then perfect, the 3rd bodyshop we took it to the ford dealership, it was gone for another 3 months at the dealerships bodyshop, they spent months on the frame straightner, and had it painted another color then the DSG that came on it, he had it painted black with maroon pin stripping... it was a sharp looking truck
just when you get it back, just be picky on the fit, and finish of the truck, paint quality. i take it you know how to spot orange peel
everything will be alright cody

Look at it this way cody. Now you have no reason to be scared to offroad it. I know i didn't do much for the first 2 years when my truck was perfect. Though I am sure it'll be good as new afterwards if not better then new like some others have said!

I asked i know silver is hard to match how good are you at it...
his response "it will match and it wont leave till it does." ding we had a winner...
Proof there is good body shops. rear fender was replaced, door was replaced, NO BLENDING front fender and cab corner WAS NOT PAINTED at all i was very specific about that and they didnt. also bed cover was painted in that pic... everything was 100% match looked like factory paint no fogging in the flake

i wish i took pics of my scratches last week. the body guy said when they order paint, they use serial numbers and it matches really good.
i was skeptical too. but mine looks great. i got the sticker from the dealer and the guy put it on today. you can't tell at all. it looks great.

'order paint'? I wouldnt use a shop that had to order paint. Most shops have mixing machines in their paint area. If they have to order paint, the chances for varients are way high. Using a vehicle VIN does not guarantee a match at all. If they dont have the ability to adjust a color on site, then they will more than likely try to half *** a repair to make it work. FYI - Ford does not have factory packs of paint unless its Mystichrome or specialty colors like that. When they DO have a factory pack like Mystic Purple or Mystichrome, FORD doesnt make it. (in those cases, BASF makes those)
another car brand that shall remain nameless that has its own private label paint doesnt make it either.
I could spout off more info than anyone here cares to know about why colors dont always match right out of the can. And why a real painter should still know how to tint.
