my bald brakes! They wouldn't stop anything!

Broken pieces that were just hanging out in the drum.

Looks like it was time! get in the habit of checking your rear brakes when you rotate the tires...you can asjust them up at that time too if needed. that way you can catch them before its too late

Agreed, its bad news having parts floating around like that. One of mine basically exploded, destroyed all the hardware, drum and shoes, and the piston, and i dunno if it was related, but also had a leak in the master cylinder.... Expensive fix, haha

Yeah I know. I should've checked a long time ago. But never thought about it. Just too excited about how my wheels and tires were gonna look each time I got new ones. I'm definitely gonna check more often. That was scary not being able to stop very well!

I just took mine to the stealership to have this done along with replacing my broken parking brake line. My rears were toast....bone stock, 12 years and nearly 150,000 on them. So much stuff was broken in the backing plate they weren't even functional. It feels great to have some stopping power again! lol

I know what ya mean... I had to push the pedal ALL the way to the floor to stop. Now I just have to barely push and it stops... I love it!!

if you think thats bad...

I did a brake job on my neighbors sons 96 Jeep Cherokee ...209,000 miles on it but he said it was about 5 years since he looked at the brakes...WTH.....the right rear piston was making contact to the rotor, actually ground some of the piston away. Nothing left of the rear pads and the front pads had the shape of wood shims. I know the unwritten rule of brake jobs is a three to one ( 3 front brake jobs to every one rear brake job) but I do check and bleed every time I take of the front calipers. I wish I had taken some pictures of that one. That is his wife's daily driver and they have two young kids....I gave him a ear full when he picked it up. Since then he changed the calipers and bled the system. Don't forget to look at both of them at the same time every time....The only plus to that is the wheel that was on the bad caliper has a gold look to it now.

You got 150K on the stock rear brakes?
I thought I was doing good to get 50K.
