Like the title says, no real reason. Nothing new on the truck. I took them, figured I would post them. The canopy needs darker window tint, and I need to spray the wheel wells...










The real reason I was out at the farm today. Just came back from TN, finally got the HID landing lights and pulse light controller installed. These suckers are bright! Can't wait to see how that are at night.


Also a new GPS mount and 28v outlets...

Nope not mine, I fly it for the owner of a coal company.
Yes, the HIDs are pulsing. They are nearly instant on, pretty sweet. They lights and ballasts are supposed to last over 5000 hours of use, compared to 20-40 hours that the 100 watt halogens last at best. The HIDs are 35 watts each, but much brighter, with wider reflectors and lenses. I'm excited to be able to run lights all the time now (much more visible, dark helicopter doing low recons don't get seen much), the last two sets of landing lights lasted less than 20 hours, so I never use them except at night for take-off and landing.

Landing at the farm at night sucks. It's about 1600 acres, and the only thing with lights is the area where I land, there are 5 flood lights hitting it. But the entire surrounding area is DARK and it is tricky to figure out your approach angle and surroundings. So I'm hoping these bright and wider beam lights help give me some sort of peripheral vision. If not, we may try some externally mounted flood lights aimed low and wide...

Yeah, everything new is like that. Your ranger bumper does the same kind of thing. Have you seen the snow plows under the new super duty bumpers? Yuck. But nowhere near as bad as the chevy trucks, even the 4x4 chevys nearly scrape curbs just pulling up to them.
Mine sits about 18" off the ground as is though. The bottom of the frame is just above the tow hooks, so the valance is really only around 3" lower. The sport trac had something similar but the bottom piece was easily removable. I'm sure one day I'll get bored and break out the dremel or something, lol.

I debated that a lot myself, and would love having the 6.5' bed, but this thing turns great and fits in the garage. The CC 6.5' F150s look awesome to me with 6" of lift too. But at that point I would probably just get a super duty. Debated that for a while too but I don't need it, so...

You think about an exhaust? Only ask cuz in the one pic it looks funny with the stock pipe poking out. Plus I think it's sad how quiet these trucks are, they sound so good with pipes!

I was going to buy a used pro series MBRP single exit catback. The guy lives in Lexington and is a sales rep for MBRP. They were supposed to send him a black catback to try and he would sell me the stainless pro series. Then the went and sold his truck for a super duty!
So I was holding out for an awesome deal, and now the idea of spending a bunch on a catback kind of sucks. I passed up a barely used MBRP catback on f150online because I was waiting for the other guy.
In the meantime, I get to hear the truck a little with the intake. Plus, everyone here has some sort of obnoxious over sized straight pipes and I'm tired of hearing crappy exhausts, and hate to get lumped in with the other d-bags, lol. Although I know a good catback will sound great on this.
Other priorities are:
- slider rear window and compression boot or something for the cap
- maybe a pioneer f90bt
- maybe a new camera. My Canon Rebel XT got dropped in Oregon while I was super trashed, and the lcd status screen on the back broke. Everything else works but now I want something new.

 

Pioneer just came out with the new models so the F90's should be going super cheap soon. I LOVE my MBRP, I would either go with that or the Banks like Zach has.

I got into the world of aviation with a lot of loans!
I've wanted to fly since I can remember. Initially it was always airplanes (that was all I saw, and thought helicopter was mostly out of reach). I took my first flight in a helicopter when I was 15 and I was hooked! So much more fun and challenging than airplanes, although I do want to work some more on my airplane ratings when I can do it for free or super cheap.
Anyway, I went to a flight school in Oregon, earned my private license, commercial license, flight instructor rating, and flight instructor instrument ratings. I got hired there as an instructor and taught people to fly for a year and a half. One week I delivered a new helicopter to this guy in Kentucky and he offered me a job, so here I am. Essentially just building time as much as I can to qualify for other jobs. My current job is good, but I want to get back West, and start flying more sophisticated helicopters and doing something more challenging...

 

I'll have to keep an eye on the stereo stuff more I guess and see what comes up. I definitely want the MBRP I just have to commit to spending the money at some point. My wife has been working for the state for a little over a month, and finally got her first paycheck. Once she gets caught up a little with her paychecks I'll have some more money to play with. I was ready to order the f90bt when I found the canopy too, lol.
