Thanks for the compliments guys.
The diesel was a big-cost option... like $6800. The V10 was definitely tempting for $600, but I was just too scared of the mileage.
The 5.4 is not bad on power in my truck. My dad has a '09 Silverado 2500 HD CrewCab with the 6.0L gas engine and 6L80E (I think) auto transmission. He has 3.73 gears on factory LT245/75R16 tires, and my truck with the weaker 5.4L and LT275/70R18 tires feels much stronger.
All truth be told, a CrewCab F150 would've worked for me. But the price difference between a new '09 F150 and a Super Duty was very small. I'm talking less than a few grand for a comparable 1/2 ton.
Plus with the Super Duty, you get the option of a manual transmission, transfer case, and hubs. You can't get 4.10 gears in the F150, either. I'll pay the MPG penalty at the pump for a truck EXACTLY like I want.

That is exactly the reasoning I would use... I refuse to own an auto trans truck, and that means no F150 for me :( but very nice, I hope to own one just like yours someday !

nice truck and the 5.4 with a stick will do anything you ask it my father has had two F250 ext cab long beds 4x4's with manuals. only way to buy a Superduty IMO, we towed skid steers, cars and excavators with it and never had issues. and could lay down rubber if we wanted to. nice truck you will be very happy with it.

While I saw a number of new 4wd trucks (F150, 250, etc) sitting on the lots, it always catches my eye how many 2wd truck you actually see running down the roads... especially once you get below Central Texas. Go to a local fair in the spring or dance hall on Saturday night, and you see all kinds of 2wd trucks stuck in the ditch after a rain. Many of the crew trucks (F350 XL 2wd) in the oil field are always stuck around the rigs.
I would know. I was one of them. This is my first 4wd and I'm nearly 30!
I'm tired of getting stuck on wet grass; I choose 4wd!
The opposite is true when I lived near the Kansas/Nebraska border. I'd drive past dealer lots, and every truck was 4wd. This South Texas boy couldn't figure that out... until the first snow storm. Getting around a snowy wheat field in 2wd wasn't my idea of fun.

Yes, but I'm not ready to do that unless it fails. Usually when they fail, the won't DISengage complete, and grinds the hub to pieces from what I hear. So they are useless at that point! lol
It just scares the hell out of me switching into 4x4 while I'm moving. I use to hate that before the manual hubs on my ranger. Driving up to go snowboarding, start getting into packed snow. It was either pull over and stop without getting run over or let off the gas and turn the switch. Just don't like the whole idea.

Yes I know that grinding all to well, I have read about it as well. My F150's 4wd system sucks *****. Worst thing I have ever used in my life. For something with 40K miles I shouldnt have to crawl under it and tap the transfer case with a hammer to get 4wd. Or constantly flip the stupid switch trying to get the hubs to disengage! POS!

My 4x4 system works great so far. Quick to shift and pretty quick to get the hubs doing what they should. The base models came with a manual case (no idea how the hubs were setup). May be something to play with in the future if I can fit a shifter with the center console there.
But I have a feeling is it because it has seen a LOT of 4x4 use, judging from the rock chips and rust underneath, grrr.
