Took 2nd at a recent vw show
the guy who beat me had nearly $30k into his 56 bug that will be in this months Hot Vw's magazine (pg 61)...
i think i put $2800 into my car, including the car, a new (used) engine, and a rebuild for it.
good times
on the way home picked up new parts for my first bike.
picked up some ape hangers, a sportster tank, fenders to bob, and a few other miscellaneous bits. next week ill order the exhaust.
i know its just a Rebel 250, but i dont need to compensate for anything, 60mpg+ are always good in my book, i dont need to go over 75mph, and im a small framed guy. no to mention im pretty sure that folks will be responding to the bike the same way they do to the bug. when they hear about it, they roll their eyes and insult.... but when they see it, their eyes get wide.
its an 86 with 3200 miles on it and NO rust.

appreciate the cheers, sancho.... but my bug is FAR from stock. think cat getting prepared to pounce and you have a general idea of the suspension stance. the front end is about 4 1/2 inches off the ground.
(forgive the bird sh*t on the running board)
the main thing that attracts vw owners to my bug is that i achieved that look without narrowing the beam and without sacrificing any of my ride comfort or my top speed. and ive retained a 40hp motor. essentially, a cal look without porsche gas mileage. guys (like the dude who beat me) spend thousands to get a certain look, as well they should - it is their car, and then they throw in a porsche type IV motor and have a bad lil ride. i have the same look, the same top speed, and better mileage because of my suspension choice, my gearing, and my tires. only thing i suffer from is a slower ride up hills. the north georgia mountains HATE me.
for reference, here is my buddy james' all original, never restored 63 stock bug.
and in high def
james took 3rd.
