Icon9 Totaled?

So the day before yesterday, the 1st, I had a city cop blow through a stop sign and t-bone me. I'd say he was doing about 30-40 easy. There wasn't a single piece of plastic, bumper, or headlight left on his brand new crown vic after he hit me. Here's a picture I snapped from my iPhone right after the wreck..

Here's the damage I can see so far:
driver's door
driver's back door
rocker panel
step rail
bed side
fender
rear bumper
exhaust pipes
tire
wheel
the axle is extremely crooked. Can't really tell what all is bent there
the front driveshaft is on the ground
and the motor sounded horrible after the wreck, shortly before i cut it off...

Basically the city police has been giving me the run around the last couple days about all of this. I finally got a rental today, and it sucks. I'm pretty sure that I want the truck to be totaled with that much damage. Do you guys think it looks totaled or no?

honestly it probably is especially with damage done to the rear axle, u may get lucky if you know a good shop but i doubt it. My dad just damage the front of his 08 dodge 3500 the other day on ice. Slid into a light post at like 5 miles on hour in a bank parking lot. 2500 later it was fixed, its just so much for every single little thing brand new, then new paint, it just sucks.

Oh the irony of a cop running a stop sign n t boning you.

that car is gonna be a total, id bet large amounts of money on the fact that there is frame damage.
Be prepared to get a run around, Did the cop have probable casue to run the sign (lights on, Chasing someone, Etc.) that cop should technically get a ticket.

Oh no man! Your truck looked sooo good. Sorry to hear that, glad you are ok tho.

You have any more pictures? Pics of the frame or underbody of the truck? I would say there there is a possibility of frame damage, but who knows. If the frame is bent, most insurance companies will total it. Ask the insurance company if you can salvage parts off it if they do total it, so you can rebuild another one.

judging from what i can see and your description, if there is no frame damage they might not total it. this one could go either way though really. sorry about your truck though man, such a beautiful truck to end up that way, glad you werent hurt.

they'll have it taken to a body shop first, to get it estimated etc. tell the body shop if its totaled you want to see it first. don't let the insurance company know your taking parts, casue then they'll shaft you on your check.

The police admitted that it was totally their fault and not mine. He blamed it on his laptop and was also not wearing his seat belt. I couldn't really tell if the frame was bent, but the bed does not line up with the cab at all, nor does the axle. It just sits really funny now and I have a bad feeling that it wont be the same if it is repaired. As bad as it sounds, I hope they total it... :/

Have the body shop make it disappear. i did that with my first Cobalt. got Tboned being an idiot, and the insurance tried to fix it, just tell them you want OEM parts or something. I have great knowledge of how to work the insurance company over, so feel free to ask anything, if not, my father owned a body shop for 15 years, he knows ins and outs.

Most insurance companies, big ones at least (AAA,Statefarm,Allstate) will total if the damage is worth more that the car, if its older it will be if its more than 70%

That's what my dad is saying. The last time I had damage done, they replaced my door with a junkyard door and ended up having to buy tons of parts for the power window. I got extremely lucky and had an extended warranty cover it. This is just such bull**** and an inconvenience that a cop has caused me. I've also heard that his car caught fire after it was put on the truck and that the crown vic was brand new, so he's in deep ****.

Damn that sucks it was a nice truck, but I bet its totalled. I would lawyer up and file against the city. They will most likely settle out of court. You could probably even get a brand new vehicle out of the deal.

Yes it was a city of Covington cop. My parents and I know about half of the cops on a first and last name basis, and we were assured that it would all be handled well. The police report was actually made out by two Georgia State Patrols and they understood that I was minding my own business and had no part of the collision. I also went to the doctor today and was prescribed some muscle relaxers for my back and neck. Luckily I had my seatbelt on..

x2 its the safest route to go in case in the end they try to bite you in the *** turning sh*t around on you but don't file unless anything happens, i'd at least talk to a lawyer. In my opinion they'll total it.
I'd start a checking interest on parts that you can sell that wont be noticeable and once they give you the verdict make a final sale on it unless you're keeping everything.

such a nice truck ruined, shame.

Doesn't look totaled to me. I don't know if I'd sue. Usually if the at fault party is employed by a city then they will be fairly easy to deal with. They have good insurance unlike many private citizens. They don't want bad publicity. I'm sure you will be taken care of.
