Hello again..I have not been here for awhile, I don't really have the time.. I was going to ask for some help last week but got side tracked..

My 90 with the 2.3 dual plugger is making noise from the bottom of engine, at least I think it's coming from the bottom...Oil press is good no burn no leaking oil. Truck runs great, idles great with damn good gas mileage. This noise sounds like a couple of marbles in a dryer...and it seems to happen AFTER i change the oil but will go away after about a week or so of driving.. Any help would be heaven sent because I am scared to drive it...

 

Noise description doesn't ring any bells for me.

Would say so for top end, i.e. rockers, but not bottom end.

Wondering if high pressure spring/ball on oil pump could be making that noise.
If you are really worried about it I might install a permanent or temp oil pressure gauge, the one in there now is just an oil pressure switch, so shows "good" oil pressure when its above 6psi.
Getting real oil pressure in real time after an oil change might show fluctuations that coincide with noises you here, this could be the high pressure by-pass failing.

As long as oil pressure on current gauge doesn't drop to 0 while engine is running you are probably safe to drive the truck

 

Thank you for the info...The oil press gauge never wavers and is on the high side of normal...Right on the "A".. As far as the pressure gauge goes, will any gauge work and where should it be installed?

 

Yes, the oil pressure switch on the engine is either on or off, below 6psi is off above 6psi is on, so the gauge is 0 with engine off and just stays at 1/2 regardless of engine RPM, how ever if alternator changes voltage a bit oil pressure gauge needle will move a bit, lol.

It depends on if you want to just check real oil pressure or monitor real oil pressure.
The dash gauge on a '90 can be used if you pull out the dash and by pass the 20ohm resistor on the back of the gauge:

And then you will need an oil pressure Sender for the engine, Ford used the PS60($15-$20) until about 1985.
So that should fit your engine, it is larger than the switch so sometimes an extension is needed.
Current oil switch wire just hooks to this sender and with resistor on gauge by-passed you will have a real oil pressure gauge, although it doesn't have actual PSI numbers.

A Mechanical gauge uses an oil line from current switch location hole then thru the firewall and into cab, this would need to be mounted where ever you want, it will have actual PSI numbers.
Or you could use one of these types of gauges just hooked up temporarily in the engine bay to watch oil pressure while engine makes its noise.

 

Ron, again thank you for the reply and info...So many opinions and so many "Mechs" telling me what the problem is, each with their own solutions... I will have to make a decision on what to do but first going to take your suggestion and install s gauge and watch it for awhile..This engine runs too good to give up on...I may just change the head and see..Thanks again...
