Quick Question
Hello there,
As you all my know I own a 1989 Ranger with a 2.3L engine, My stock filter box is broken, near the back side so dirty air is gettign into my motor......
I plan on placing a CAI since it will be approx. the same amout of cash spent to replace and it will make it look nice and give it a throaty sound...
my question is this , I do not have a MAF Sensor or atleast a circular one like my 2003 elantra did , so if i do place a CAI were would i place the one that goes on the original box (I will place pics if needed)
I have searched through 12 pages regarding this CAI and have only found usless info or links that might help me but are outdated.. thanks for your time and im sorry if this is in the wrong section

alright finally found the time to obtain pics of this unknown sensor ... the sensor has 2 hose like adapters on it one goes towards the fire wall and the other towardes the bottom of the battery box
here is the complete air intake system
so here is the exterior top were all the wires feed off of the airbox
as toy can see in both these photos, there is no MAF sensor...
this is what it looks from the exterior of the air box when both tube like electric hoses are removed
the inside of the air box
and there is the actual sensor from inside the box...

those hoses are vacuum lines that should operate a air diverter in the air intake before the filter. What they do is when the engine is cold it pulls warm air from off the exhaust manifold to help the engine get warmed up then closes to allow cool air into the intake. If you follow the one that does not lead to the firewall you should find the air diverter

I have not done a CAI yet so I don't know much about it but I believe you can follow the line towards the firewall, disconnect it and plug/cap the connection. Remove your current air intake system and install the CAI, the diverter will not be needed with the CAI.
Can someone with some more CAI experience please comment and help

Well, if it is anything like the set up in my 1993 2.3l mustang (almost the same airbox ) it is nothing to worry about. The vacuum lines only operate some mechanical pieces on the air box itself. if you take it apart you will see that. Don't worry about it. I never put a CAI on my mustang but I did gut the air box and completely remove the little door that the vacuum lines actuate.... ran a bit different to say the least. But it did no harm... or at least till I hit a puddle that was just a little to big.
But again dont worry about those vacuum lines. remove them and put a CAI on there, you'll be happy you did.
