so ive got a 1999 ford ranger xlt 5 speed( i think its a 2.3l) with 150k on it. just failed smog due to check engine light, p0401 and p0701. currently cleaning egg valve, replacing pcv,fuel filter, and cleaning the MAF. this truck is great but its squeaky as hell. how can i fix the squeakiness, is it the shocks going bad? every time it rocks back and forth its a bad squeaky noise.

 

check ball joints

 

Check the stabilizer bars and links as well, mostly the bushings. See what condition they're in.

the 1999 4 cylinder model has the 2.5L motor, unless you have done a swap.
