2.3L 4th gear hesitation

So I traded my 88' in for a 2006 with 70K from the local Ford dealer. When I am going about 35 to 40mph and shift to 4th gear and maintain speed the engine will hesitate every now and then. (4th gear at 40mph is pretty low RPM's) Never had this problem and not sure if I should even be concerned.

The truck is only 2 months old so it is under warrenty for 3months/3K miles for $100 deductible....bring it right back in or think it is something cheap?

Thanks for any advice.

manual transmission? If so try waiting till 45 or 50 MPH for 4th gear, thats usually when I would use 4th. If it keeps doing it just take it back. Thats what warranties are for.

Manual transmission...I will probably end up taking a cruise back to the dealer...just curious if anyone had a quick diagnosis.
Thanks

Mine started doing the same thing. It was at 61k, a 06, 2.3L with 5 speed manual. Mine showed no check engine light but a pending code for misfire #2 and #3 cylinders. I first replaced the plug wires and recheck the spark plug gap. I had installed NGK ir plugs maybe a year before with no issue. I found both the #2 and #3 plug slightly wider than spec. Had not checked them because I had heard you were not suppose to gap them. Set back to spec with the new wires it was better but still had a very slight hesistation. I would venture to guess it reduced the hesistation by half. I finally installed a new coil and the truck has run great every since.

My 2001 2.3L has been doing this for years. I have a couple boulevards near me that 40mph in 4th is just right and as you just run along on flat ground at this rpm it has a common stumble or hesitation, miss, etc when you transition up the throttle. It now is getting much worse, I just did the PVC and hose cuz it was throwing P0171 lean bank 1, fixing the rotted pvc hose allowed the MIL to clear and no more code BUT hesitation is still there and seems worse and worse over the past several months. I am suspecting TPS, idle conrol, map, already cleaned the maf, not sure where it is. guess time to break out the volt meter and start testing everything. PIA!

Mine is still great with no hesistation. Depending on your miles and years I would look at plugs, wires adn coil! Worked for me.

Mine was code free...and the hesitation hasn't happened since I started this thread?...weird. However I will be taking Bratman's advice and be replacing the plugs, wires and coil pack this summer at 75K miles.

Do want to clarify, my truck had not thrown a code yet! My code scanner will pull up pending codes. Things that are not quite right but not bad enough to have tripped a code yet!

I think I need your scanner....dealer probably screwed me cause they didn't want to do warranty work and said it passed with no codes. Now it is off warranty so if I bring it in they will probably have ten pages of recommended work.
