Filling the tranny fluid

So I was having the oil changed the other day and the guy said my tranny fluid is low and wanted to charge me $30 just to top it off. I told him I can do that myself. Only thing is with a lowered truck it's a major PITA to fill it the conventional way. Can I pull off my shifter and fill it from there? This would be way faster, cleaner, and easier if I can.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why would it be more difficult to fill-up on a lowered truck? Get a funnel and add to the dip-stick hole, recheck, repeat as needed until it's filled.

There's no dipstick tube on a manual trans.

yea, so you have to get under the truck to do it, thats why its harder, specially when the truck is alot closer to the ground.

Obviously thats why you jack it up off the ground which can be a *****.

I know I have to drive on blocks and **** just to get the jack underneath my truck.

ok. so we've accomplished why I'm wanting to do it this way. lol Now how about an answer? I had the shifter off a few weeks ago to replace a part and you can see all the gears and stuff so I'm guessing it should work, but I want to make sure before I go and mess up my tranny.

Not sure. My driveway is a fairly steap incline so I might be able to.

You should be able to get it up a set of ramps, or improvise it somehow. Just make sure it's sturdy and secure before you crawl underneath it.

Well I broke another motor mount so now I have to crawl under there this weekend. Has anyone else broke a mount with a 2.3 before? This is the 2nd time for me in about 6 years.

DONT do it that way. iam guessing its a stick shift... the ranger has a fill and a drain plug. the tranny should only be filled to the fill plug with a little over flow. that is BS to charge $30 bucks. go to any quick lube shop and ask them to top u off it should be free its only ATF.

Im wondering if I have a broke motor mount, cause when I start it up, the truck shakes a little (something shakes, cause you can feel it jar), as well as the Manual trans shifter. I use to have a truck with a v8 and it was smooth when it started up.

If you have a standard then you can definately tell if the motor mount is broke. You can't take off without the shifter swinging way over to the passenger side. And trying to take off uphill will almost cause you to stall. It's a big pain in the rear. This time I found solid rubber mounts instead of those fluid filled things. They were cheaper too. I'm hoping they hold up better.
