95 Mazda B2300 Timing Belt

Hello all,

Got a little problem with my 95, I have snapped my timing belt and have attempted to put a new one on with a some ups and downs. The Harmonic Balancer wouldn't come off of the spindle when dismantling it and upon forcing it off we must have bent a tooth in the cranksensor cog. In the end, truck started fine and ran for 10 minutes, on the second start it had trouble starting and then when it did fire the cog that we screwed up broke, a tooth went into the timing belt, broke the new belt enough to make it slip. I heard 3 metal on metal noises then shut it down quickly. So in the end I am going to reattempt this again now with yet another new belt and have to source a new balancer for a 2.3L 4cyl -any ideas?

Possible damage from broken timing belt - HELP!

Got a '97 Ranger from a neighbor just a few weeks ago.

Son was driving it on highway and the timing belt broke at 70mph. And, because he knew it was loosing power, he down shifted into 4th before realizing there was a bigger problem at hand.

Had it towed home. Replaced timing belt, plugs and wires and still won't run.

Checked the gear indexing several times and still no go. Removed the air intake from the filter to the throttle body and noticed 'blow back' from the throttle body. I can feel air pushing out of the throat of the throttle body while holding my palm over the opening.

I'm guessing some type of damage to the valves/head. Could I also have some ring damage? How 'bout the transmission?

Truck is 2.3, 5speed and has 170k miles. Oh, according to the previous owner who bought the truck new - the timing belt had never been changed!

Does anyone have some guidance on this?

Thanks in advance for your help.
