Welcome to the forum
Any engine will ping/knock under load if it "isn't getting enough fuel", so if you don't hear that then its getting enough fuel...........and it will smoke if its getting too much fuel
Test for clogged exhaust system, i.e. pull out upstream O2 sensor and go for a drive, it WILL BE LOUD, but if power is back then exhaust IS clogged
2.3l Lima has a timing BELT, these can stretch or slip a gear, this causes lower compression so lower power
You can use a vacuum gauge to test "compression" and clogged exhaust, read here: https://www.gregsengine.com/using-a-vacuum-gauge.html
Vacuum gauge is still one of the better tools to use to diagnose gasoline engines
