2.3 NO power

95 2.3l ranger 5 speed. Not sure what the probelm im having is when i seem to start a climb up any hill what so ever i cant go any faster than really 40 mph, it is worse the steeper the hill. sometimes when i change gears and press the gas pedal i hear what appears to be a poping sound and the truck will not accelerate. New airfilter and fuel filter, plugs and wires other than that i belive everything is stock. The check engine light is on but i havent had the time to get any codes pulled yet. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks 213k miles

sounds like your misfireing. If you just did the plugs and wires, that would be 1st suspect.

well it sound like its back firing so if its not a loud pop then its back firing into the intake manifold thats caused by burning too lean, could be a misfire, but i dont' know much about misfiring i would invest 32 dollars at advance ato for and obd 1 scanner and see what the codes come up

i dont know how big of hills your trying to climb but that year i think you have 80-110 hp if its just a hill on the road and its doing that i would say your timing is off maybe you have missing teeth timing belt and the cam retarded changing your power band or your ignition timing is off
