Turns over and over and over before starting

Hi, I just picked up a 1999 2.5L. I love it, but sometimes when I try to start it, it will turn over for maybe 5 seconds before starting, then other times it will crank just fine. Its got 91000 miles and I'm not sure whats been replaced on the motor. Anyone else have this problem or have any ideas?

I'm with the others, start with the basics and go from there. -Mike-

wouldnt be the starter if it is actually cranking over. Start with the tune up basics being plugs and wires (especially if it has been over 80K miles on them) and a fuel filter never hurts about once a year. Also for a point of reference at 91K you're getting close to the recommended change interval for the timing belt (every 100K miles) although even if the belt breaks no damage will be done to the motor, you will just have a bad day and need a tow and to retime everything and replace the belt.
