I have a 97 4 cyl ranger 5 speed that wont start. It was fine the day before but it wont startup now. It just cranks. Fuel gauge is also not moving like it use to do, just stays at E. I can hear the pump click on but nothing. All fuses are fine except for airbag and audio fuses. I dont know if it has anything to do with lightning hitting semi-close to where it was sitting that night or what. Any ideas? Thanks

 

unless the lightning struck the truck i doubt that it would effect it since the tiers insolate any electricity in the ground from a lightning strike from the electrical system of your truck,check for spark, you can do so with a timing light or i heard you can also do so by taking the plug out and grounding it on the manifold / any where you can ground it

 

Look to see if the timing belt is moving when you turn the engine over.
It is common for them to break when the engine shuts down.

 

I pulled a plug wire and checked for spark today and there was nothing. Im use to the single coil setup, not the coil pack stuff on there. What would be the next thing to check? Thanks

 

I know a guy who had his ranger struck by lightning, had a couple flat tires and a nice little hole on the top of one of the bed rails. All his electronics didn't work or acted really weird. Good luck haha.

 

Are you sure you're not out of gas?

 

check you maxi fuse

 

do you get any power anywhere? have you checked the battery and gone from there?

 

take the battery to get tested at autozone or something. Check all your fuses and relays
