well lowing the diff. gear ratio in the back will help make the engine move the rear wheels easier, so should save on gas mileage

I have the same truck, I went with a 95 head with a 94 cam keep the 95 followers increases lift to 0.443, cold air intake made with a volvo intercooler pipe, relocated ect to cylinder block, make 1" spacer for thermostat housing with 3/4 pipe bung for heater hose 205 degree thermostat, electric fan, gut the cat and get a flowmaster, relocate the act to intake tube, throttle body spacer, 4:10 explorer rear end. 17lb. injectors from a G.M v6, I think thats all, runs strong, gets about 25-27 mpg. hope this helps. and gasket match head and intake.
