help with leaky rear main seal
i've got a 94 ranger with a 2.3 litre engine with almost 600,000 miles, the back is leaking slightly due to the rear main seal grooving it,i've installed the groove kit in the oil pan and replaced the seal itself several times, including in the last 2-3 weeks, this time it still has a little bit of a leak,is there something else i can do,besides replace the crank or get another engine?is there another kit that ford or a good aftermarket kit that's available that can fix this?any help would truly be appreciated,as of now,i'm putting a quart of oil in every 5-7 days as i drive 300-500 miles a day...thanks

i forget the name, but they make kits for seal setups like that, like for the pinion seal that wears. It is a very thin metal sleeve that goes over the part that rotates (in this case the crank itself) which covers the groove that has worn into the metal from the seal. Another thing you can try is installing the seal in a slightly different position, like leave it just a hair out too far so that it will run on a different part of the crank.
