Broken connecting rod often damages the block, puts crack in it, if it broke loose, so check carefully.
You need to replace all the bearings, connecting rods and crank, unless the rod broke because of a hydro-lock, then just replace rod bearings, all 4 sets.
Connecting rods do/can move sideways on crank journal, if thats what you mean, that is OK
Crank can not not move sideways, ever
You need to use plastigauge to find out if oversized bearings are needed for the rods, even if you just replace the one.
Google: how to use plastigage
It is cheap and easy to use, and alot better than having to do this same repair in a few months

Also, make darned sure that the rod ends whipping around in there didn't break the block. They usually do.
I'd seriously consider a good used engine. That would be a lot less work.
