Need some info

I just bought an 01 B2300 (Ranger). I bought this truck with 80k on a boogered up engine. The previous owner was kind enough to through all new timing components, tps, air flow meter, coil pack, plugs, and some other stuff I can't remember to get this truck running right. In he process, all the intake valves were bent.

In the tear down, I noticed both cam were demolished. The journals were completely wiped out. Well my machine shop recommended to get a used head. Well the one I bought had brand new intake valves in it. Put it back together.....Nothing no compression in no 3. Did a leak down test, rings are gone.

My big question to you guys is this. Are these engine good, or should I cut and run? The truck is clean as a whistle. This is going to be my sons first vehicle. So I want something reliable. I am just not familier with the DOHC 2.3. Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
