Got a 94 Ranger for free!

Hey all. Just signed up to this site seeing as i just received a ranger. lol

Well it hasn't been started since 09, Hooked some jumper cables to it and it started up for a few seconds and died cause it ran outta gas. So we trailered it home. Got it started again and it sounded it it has jumped a tooth in timing, pulled off the cover and sure enough it did. So timed it all back up and it ran alright still a lil rough. Put a new timing belt on it, new plugs, new oil, and gas. Added some fuel treatment too just to make sure if anything was in there.

Well pulled the number 3 plug out on the intake side and it looked like this.

Looks like the piston came up and ate it??

But anyways put all that new stuff on it ad it ran good above idle and sittin at idle it runs like it has a big cam.. Not sure if its a vacuum leak or what??

Which engine?

Have you removed the spark plug wires on each clyinder while idling to see which clyinder is miss firing?? Have you done a compression test???

Well no busted rocker arm. or spring they look good. So Its either a bent valve or dead cylinder.. I sprayed some wd-40 down Cylinder number 3 seeing as the motor sat since 09. Maybe the rings are stuck??

Do a compression test. IF low compression squirt some oil into clyinder and retest to see if there is a difference. If difference between dry and wet test it is a good indication that rings are bad or stuck. I would put Mystery Oil in clyinder to try loosen stuck rings, WD-40 will evaporate. Years ago used Mystery Oil on a frozen tractor engine and it loosened the clyinder after soaking a while

IF no difference issue from head gasket to valve train.

I believe these are non-interence engines.

Just did a compression test on Number 3 and gauge barely moved. Before we added some oil additive to it cause it sat so long, along with new oil.

Did you do a wet test also?? Squirt some oil in the clyinder and test.

One thing that pissing me off is that i cant get one of the fuel lines off. Ive got the tool but it looks like its not releasing the spring inside. Any other way of getting it off? Trying to get the intake plenum off so i can clean it.

Oh well damn! Anyways we put it all back together and turns out theres still a miss in it. Did a compression test on 2 and its at like 45% and number 3 was at like 70%. IT also sounds like it has a tad bit of bottom end noise. But can barely hear. So Im in search of possibly a motor of just head..

That's what I'm thinking. Lol. Or overheated it and put a hairline crack in the head.
