Smoking...
#1
My 87 2.0L smokes, but only occasionally...when i'm hard on the accelerator or when the engine is cold. It goes away at part throttle cruise and only smokes occasionally at idle.
Is this possibly valve stem seals? Or? I wouldn't think its rings because that would cause it to smoke constantly, and heavily...but this is just light blue only when acclerating or at idle.
Any suggestions are welcome.... 8)

Either valve seals or rings. have you checked the spark plug for oil fouling? Either way, about the only thing that can be done without rebuilding/tearing down the engine is trying some of that "engine restorer" that claims to revitalize seals and restore compression. I forget the actual name of it, but you've probably seen it on TV.
Might also try some zmax. It works wonders cleaning out the gunk on old engines, that may clean off some valve opening debris that is messing up your combustion, but overall nothing that can fix blue smoke.

Well... these little 2 liters are funky contraptions. It has a side of the block mounted "oil separator" thing. Apparently it was all plugged/stopped up and kept popping off the block while i was cruising, allowing oil to flow out of the side of the block and thus create the smoke i was seeing.
I'll have to check in the AM to see if its still puffing smoke while its cold...but this may have been the issue.
Even if the coke-bottle dies...i'm going to swap in something bigger... Maybe a 2.3 or 5.0.

It does indeed still smoke while its cold, but at cruise its clean/clear behind me.
I'm going to hit the boneyard and look for another head, and have it cleaned up and ported, probably larger valves and go back with that for a stop-gap until i can get my hands on some 2.3L stuff, or 5.0L.
