85 Ranger carb'd to EFI

Ok I'm new to the forum and don't have any experience with Ford Rangers. I've got a 2.0 4 cyl that has a single barrel carb. I was wondering if could convert to EFI. I noticed that the other 4 cyl for the same year had EFI. I'm wondering what parts on my 2.0 are interchangable with the larger EFI engines?

If the intake manifolds are the same and I can also swap fuel tanks with different fuel pumps I can use megasquirt EFI to control it and shouldn't be too much problems. My Ranger is the stripped down model without radio or any decent gauges. Just idiot lights.

Thanks for any input

I think the base kits are early fuel injection kits off a chevy. The style that bolts on in place of a 4 barrel carb.

To do it cheap, I wonder if you could rob all the compnents off an old truck- computer, harness, sensors, efi computer, etc.

yea I was thinking of robbing an old truck but wasn't sure what parts interchange. i don't like the throttle body EFI I prefer the port injection.

by port you mean 4 separate fuel injectors? The only feedback I can give is on 4.3 v6 chevies. Some of those guys were able to get an edelbrock aluminum intake and get it machined to accept the fuel injectors. past that, some used megasquirt for the computer side.

You can do some searching here:

why couldnt you just take the parts off a truck that has efi and swap them on the truck?

with a tbi you could and it should, but I would stick with a 4 banger parts vehicle. TBI is basically a carb disguised as an electronic fuel injection unit.

With port injection, it would have to be from the same engine since the fuel injectors are in the intake manifold. Ex- a 2.3 port injection intake manifold has to fit on his 2.0 engine to make it work unless he was able to fab up bung holes and a fuel rail into his existing manifold.

I've used megasquirt EFI for the controller on other vehicles. I was hoping that the 2.3 or other 4cyl would be able to exchange the intake manifolds. Really all I would need to convert it would be a EFI intake manifold with the 4 injectors and the rail that would fit my 2.0 and a fuel pump setup. I could do the rest with other parts. I guess I'm lookiing for compatibility of intake manifolds between years and sizes of Ford 4 cylinders. Does anyone know a source to find out what other intakes might be compatible with my 4 cylinder?
