People with 2.5s, advice on new exhaust
I got a 98 2.5 4 banger and I'm about to buy a new tip and muffler for my truck and run it in front of the passenger rear tire. I know that I got a measly 2.5 and it is never going to sound bad ***, but I don't want to go out and buy an exhaust that makes me sound like a Civic ricer coming down the street.
I am looking to get a nice purr nothing too loud and obnoxious. I've done some youtubing and saw what I liked and didn't like. Magnaflow seems to be the brand I favor based on the videos. So in your personal experience, because it's hard to get an exact pitch from listening to videos, what setup would you think best suites my truck? I'm willing to spend up to $350 on parts.
Thanks in advance

I don't have much input since I haven't done one yet on my 2.5L but I would stay away from a Flowmaster 40 or something like it. I think it would make it sound a little to ricey. Maybe something like a Flowmaster 50 since it is a little quieter. I've been wanting to do an exhaust but to scared it will sound like crap. Mine was straight piped when I bought it and it did not sound good.

Hey there. Read the post and was just wondering what you ended up doing to modify your exhaust. I decided to "upgrade" mine and ordered a Gibson cat-back system designed specifically for 4 banger Rangers like ours. (Part number 619714 from Gibson Exhaust.) Anyway I haven't installed it yet because I just ordered it and it's being shipped, be here in a few days. Just thought I'd mention it in case maybe you weren't aware that system is available for 2.5L Ranger.

Finally had time to install that system, just today.

After (upgrade): MVI_1852.mp4 video by sgull1 - Photobucket
The audio in these little videos doesn't really reflect the general improvement in sound. The new exhaust has a nicer lower purring type tone at idle, and a little sportier performance type sound while driving.

I think the same thing. Seems like even the stock system on this truck always hung kinda low too for some reason (as in "before" video). On installation I did try turning/twisting the tailpipe and outlet to situate the end there more upward toward the body, but seems like that's the best I could manage without having the tailpipe be up against metal on the axle. I should loosen up the clamps and try yet again to re-set it somehow so that tip is higher.

Okay I re-adjusted it. I think it's set the way it's supposed to be now. Not so low. Not too close to the axle either, it's all good now. Just needed to manipulate it right.
