whats up, on my 98 ranger i am having a bad belt squeaking problem. when i go to start it in the morning the belt squeaks really loud for about 3 seconds. then when i am at a stop light and start to go from a dead stop it squeaks for couple seconds. it gets even worse when i have the a/c on. any one know what is up with this. i have changed the idler pulley and it made it worse. the tensioner is stock and i heard it was recalled. i dont know if this is true or not. also i heard that switching to a gatorback will help the problem. does anyone know if this is correct. thanks alot

 

Switching to any belt will help that problem!

 

If the belt you are using has a-lot of miles on it, it may be the problem. Not sure how to explain it, but the belt, after many miles, will get a glaze on it and cause it to slip and make a bit of noise while doing so.

 

if it happens all the time then its the belt, if its only when its wet out or high humidity then its the idler pulley

 

i replaced the idler pulley already and the belt. it is still squeaking. i am going to take it to ford tommarow to see if the belt tensioner is recalled.
