To tell if you have the 2.0L engine is to check your VIN code if the 8th letter is "C" then you have the 2.0 if not then its the 2.3

I have a 2.0L in my 84 Ranger and it has the "C" as the 8th letter and its a 2.0L according to all the engine sites and rebiuld kits that I can find for it

The 8th character is not a "C". So it looks like its the 2.3

my neighbor used to have an 85 ranger 4cyl...that thing ran like a top up until he scrapped it because the PA winters got to it
