I think he is referring to a rear D35....if so, here is now random stuff I'm making up to think about before taking on this project...(I'm kidding about the made up part, just my little inside joke
As for width, I know the Ex 8.8 is about 1.5" wider than a Ranger 8.8. Not sure if TJ axles are the same as Cherokees, but I know the Ex axles are actually narrower than the Jeep axles. That said, I would assume the cherokee axle may be wider than your stock axle, keep that in mind.
Not sure if the cherokee shaft uses a flange or yoke, but the Ranger does. You would have to look into possibly getting a new dshaft or yoke/flange at the axle for the swap.
Also have to worry about shock mounts and spring pad width.
Not too hard of a swap, but you will gain nothing in strength, only the gearing and locker.
