Slight update. My deployment is winding down (living in the tents now) and I have ordered some bits and bob's to finish up.
As of right now the guy working on my truck should have the front axle in. Keeping with the same suspension set up I had with the D30. I am going with 5.38's and probably a lockrite in the front. I have not decided on a rear yet either going with a D70u or Sterling 10.25 either way 5.38's and welded. Steering will be a standard setup with room for hydro assist in the future. I just ordered some 39.5's and 16.5" steelies from a member on here and they should be there when I get home. I wish I had some pictures to throw up. Sent an email to the shop and he said when he gets a chance he will toss some up for me.
Now a couple of questions D70u or sterling price is the same either way. Also the 39.5's are pretty well used two of them will last the season without a doubt (~40% tread) but the other two are racing slicks. I found cheap set of brand new 38.5's will they match well enough to keep the tcase from smoking? I have read that the 38.5's are a little short, but I cant imagine they are to much shorter than some relatively bald 39.5s...

Got some junkyard rims and tires for rollers and since I have a similar set of rims on the way I figured I would experiment with these
Original rusty rim
Rust removed
Self etching primer
Cheap black gloss paint
I also picked up a new master cylinder this one should be valved for front and rear 1 ton disk brakes it came off of the E350 I pulled the axle from.

Nice stuff, should be HD all the way.
I have to ask, what will you be running in the D70 rear, L/S, Locker… ?
My thinking, go Sw’able or spool, because a D70 “Auto" locker, in a Ranger (light weight) will never unlock to differentiate when turning or cornering.
Just wondering !

Plan on going with a detroit full case. Full case spools are expensive for the D70 and I need a new carrier since there are no thick 5.38s and I have the carrier for 3.55s. If I walk into a cheap elocker or something I may go with that but I doubt it at this point a detroit should be plenty strong.
Sounds like you will have a great setup once done.
Spools are usually cheaper by a lot but I don’t know on the D70.

D70 is torn down. Turns out it is only a 32 spline axle, but until I start breaking things that's plenty for me.
^guess which side has a bad seal in it.
Normally spools are cheaper and that is what I am used to but for the D70 it seems they cost about the same. I had originally planned on just welding it, but am hoping with all of the extra crap in and on the truck it will be heavy enough.

Rear axle is now out and some I installed some XJ 1" shackles they will only give .5-.75" lift, but are a lot beefier not to mention greasable.
Measured the ring gear on the rear axle and even though 35 spline shafts fit the FF hubs turns out this one is still a D60 (9.75" ring gear) no big deal should still be plenty strong. Judging by the thicker tubes, hubs that fit 35 spine shafts and stock 32 spline shafts I do feel safe calling it a D60HD lol.
