stupid noob question

is a dana 44 a good choice for an axle swap in the rear of my ranger? currently i have a 7.5in, with 3.73gears. the only reason i ask is because i have a 78 IH scout 2 that isnt currently used, that has dana 44s front and rear. would it be any more difficult swapping it in, than swapping a 8.8 from a ranger or exploder in? i havent really been able to tear into my ranger much since im in school, and its my DD. im might just wait till after basic to start, just wanting some info

thanks

Umm, why do you want to upgrade axles? that is the most important question to ask yourself...

It seems if you came here to ask the question, you probably don't need to upgrade your current axles, given a dana 44 would be a solid front axle swap....

for the 8.8 it's just relocate the spring perches from the bottom to the top of the axle not to sure about the dana 44

You're taking a small step into a big world, SAS is no small task. There's alot of things to consider. Searching build threads is a good start

im not talking about SAS, im talking about replacing my 7.5 in my ranger, with the rear D44 from my scout. the only reason i ask the question is because from what i hear the 7.5 isnt all that strong for offroading. after i graduate from HS i will be doing more offroading in this truck

it sounds like an OK plan, but I would save your pennies and run the truck as is till it breaks. with that said, I would do an 8.8 swap first. much easier.
