Hate me for what I'm about to say

Ok so on with the sacrelige. I want to switch my 03 4x4 to an 03 2x4. Yes...i Said 4x4 to 2x4. what would i need? new trans of course, new drive shaft and front suspension. i plan on going with a long travel kit up front. I cannot just sell mine and get a 2x4 or buy another truck. so please dont tell me to just buy a 2x4. I am just brainstorming right now, so just go with it. I'm not actually going to rip into my truck even if this would be easy

Why can you sell your truck for a 2wd? It would be a lot easier to start with a 2wd. You can still have long travel and 4wd. http://www.dixonbrosracing.com/content/view/8/2/

I've put too much work into my truck to sell it. Plus. I doubt my parents will let me. i've gone through six vehicles in the past three years! So this would be my only option.

Well I personally thinks it's a stupid idea. As far as what you would need is the tailshaft housing for the tranny, 2wd spindles and rotors. I think that's it. Anyone feel free to add to that list if I missed something. I'm sure you can find someone that wants 4wd to swap you parts.

Why are people always out to prove something for nothing?

I still havent heard why you want to do this swap. Is it because of gas prices? You like getting stuck in the snow and mud? Dont like off roading?

Anyway, I dont think its relevent as to what anyone thinks about the idea, its definately possible, but probably not worth it financially.

why not just sell or trade it in on a 2WD?

LT, and i don't go play in the mud. its not for me. and we dont get much snow here in New mexico. I was just wondering if i got the susp kit from camburg or say blitzkreig if i'd just be able to get spindles and the trans adapter or new trans

well, like Christian already said, DBR makes and awesome LT kit for 4x4 rangers!

its somewhat expensive, but Im sure its cheaper than doing a 2WD swap or getting a different truck.

not to argue your point, but its nice to have 4x4 IF you need it... never hurts to have more capability than you need!

camburg & dixon bros' are the ****, LT or not.

IMO- drop the money into the 4wd kit and don't install the front drive shaft.

My friend could never understand why I would refuse to buy a 2wd truck(unless I plan to drop it). We went Pismo last month and he figured out why. His 2wd F150 got stuck everywhere. It took about an hour and a half to get to our campsite. Even if you don't use it often it's good to have.

I agree! That way if by chance you do decide to sell it or trade it you can go back to stock. If you try and sell/trade it and it is listed on the title as a 4x4 you will never be able to get rid of it.

Your truck is not a piece of lumber. It's a truck you do not have a 2x4, you have a 4x2.
