1998 Ball Joints

Okay, I know alot of posts have been made on the subject, but I just want to make sure I am getting this straight. Have a '98 extended cab 2wd with 2.5l. Ball joints are shot and I would prefer to replace myself than pay some ungodly amount for something I can probably do myself. From my understanding, the lower can definately be pressed out, but on some of these trucks, the upper may or not be able to be pressed out. Is this correct and if so, is there any way of telling which it is just by looking. Any input is greatly appreciated...

If the balljoints have never been replaced then you'll have to buy the complete upper arms.

Your upper ones will need to be replaced with the whole arm, Rockauto sells the whole thing for just under $35 a piece.

Left Upper
Right Upper

Great info...thanks guys. Are these ball joints serviceable? What lowers are the best buy from RockAuto? Also saw on one of the "how to's"..a homemade lower ball joint removal tool. Anyone made one of these and tried it? Figured it might be worth a shot since I can round up the fittings and pipe at work...
