Hey,

My 2011 Fx4 has a roughcountry 2.5'' torsion key lift, rear add-a-leaf + leaf re-curve. Shes sittin on stock Ranchos. I now want to gain much needed front travel.

Im looking into either of two options;
1. Make myself some sway-bar endlink quick disconnects, thus, making it possible to gain the extra travel for those off-road trips, while keeping the on-road stability.

2. Removing the whole sway-bar assembly.

Now, in reference to option 1, I don't got no questions. Considering option 2; anyone ever remove the sway bar? How's the on-road feel? is the truck stable?

 

I have temporarily disconnected my sway bar for off-road duty. I did not like the way it handled on the road. It is OK going straight but in the corners, it sucks. I am afraid quick maneuvers would be dangerous also. I didn't like it very much on side inclines while off-road either. Works great otherwise.

I am trying to figure out a way to easily disconnect the sway bar now.

 

Heres my idea for the disconnect.

1. Through the top + bottom (swaybar and lower control arm) bushings, i'll put in a bolt and nut torqued to spec. lower bolt pointing upward, upper bolt pointing downward,
2. Both of the bolts will be drilled on the sides to have a half-circle on each ''side''
3. I'll get myself some 1/8'' wall tube, thats fits on the bolts, cut it to length, and use some Hitch Pin Clip to hold it in place.

At this stage, it is still a plan, I'm on parental leave, so I'll be trying to figure that out.

 

Well, I ended up removing the swaybar altogether...turns out, with my t-bar cranked out, the front is stiff enough to compensate for the lack of swaybar
