keep your bit oiled.. like KLC said, if the bit gets to hott, it weakens and it and causes it to dull and wear out faster!! also drill the pilot hole first like mentioned above.. its much easier to get a small bit placed exactly where you want the hole rather then a bigger big that doesnt cut as well and will move around on you.
