if you lay under your truck, youll see a crossmember under your front doors, in the crossmember there are 2 large holes on the bottom, one on each site, in the hole is a bolt, should be a 13 mm (?) thats the torsion adjusting bolt. have fun!

Anybody got the Ford factory specs for the suspension heights? My front end is quite low compared to the backside.. I suspect the T-bars might have just settled a bit, no? I know somebody (bet it was you John) posted the specs and measurement procedure back on GE. Any chance you could do it again? Better yet, maybe we can make that data a sticky..

Gilles, I went offroading with TBarCYa's brother Chris and he has a bone stock 1997 Jeep Wrangler with lousy street style tires on and he got stuck yes -- but what was significant was what he DID make it through.

I have a 4x2 so I'm doing what I can to get more performance -- but in some situations a stock 4x4 will do better than my built 4x2. Sometimes it's the other way around. Still, well made stock 4x4's can be amazing with the right driver.

Yes, it was me. I'll get it set up -- I think the scanned diagram is still on my site. Back in a few...

Refering to the above: you measure from the ground to the bottom tip of the spindle (inset drawing) which is measurement (1) and from the ground to the center of the forward lower a-arm pivot which is measurement (3).

From this, subtract (1) from (3) to get measurement (2) which is "ride height" by the Ford spec.

Front new vehicles with less than 500 miles: 113 mm (4.52 in) +/- 11 mm (0.44 in)

Front with original parts after 500 miles: 101 mm (4.04 in) +/- 11 mm (0.44 in)

Front with replacement parts: 113 mm (4.52 in) +/- 3 mm (0.12 in)

Notice that the "original" parts are allowed more tolerance than replacement parts -- don't know what that is about.

Those specs are from the 2002 Ford Ranger workshop manual.

Been there, done that, know EXACTLY what yer talking about! My first time out I got the entire driver's side burried in a mud-hole. The passenger's side was on semi-solid ground, but I wasn't going anywhere. I just couldn't put the power down w/o spinning the wheels out in the air! Of course I was alone, miles from help, like an idiot! .. Then I discovered low range. Wholey snikeys man! That truck hopped out of that hole like someone kicked it in the gonads.. I've YET to have my truck stuck. 4x4 really is that helpful..

My truck gets stuck if the right wheel gets off the ground too much. Damn my tires suck. Winter duelers are for winter, not offroading :P And John, yours is a built 4x2, not a 4x2. If my 4x4 were on 35s and locked, well, I'd be stuck, but a *competent* driver would be climbing up cliffs.

Heres a tire calculator...

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

You can fit 32's and maybe 33's with a t-bar crank

Hey, man, nice mud! I'm sure a little bigger tire will be just fine. Most have been able to run 32's with little difficulty.
