Going through PVH wheel bearings on my '99

Hello All,

Recently just finished heads/cam on my '99, its got the big 4.0, now with the promaxx heads and delta cam. But that's besides the point. This one has pulse vacuum hubs and ABS sensors built into the front wheel bearings. I'm also running the milemarker manual hubs.

I've got yet again, another squeaky front wheel bearing as I go through left curves. There's no play in it yet but I know its going soon, I've found they don't last long after they start making noise, then they escalate pretty quickly. Like I might get another week out of it given my driving scenario (look up "bear creek road" california on google maps).

Thus we get to my complaint. I'm only getting 1.5-2 yrs out of these bearings driving that road daily, just enough they are out of warranty. I've tried a couple different brands, including SKF. I ordered ford brand this time from rockauto.

I'm getting pretty annoyed paying for/changing these so often. I can do it in roughly 45 minutes now...How can I improve the ruggedness of the front end of this truck? I know the newer style doesn't have locking hubs, something I really do not want to do for fuel mileage sake. Not sure I want to go as far as a full solid axle swap, at least not yet. Is there a different cassette bearing I can use? Maybe from another automaker? That's a tough question as the ABS sensor is built into these...

Suggestions?

Also I'd like to know if anyone has a favorite pair of snap ring pliers they can recommend to get that plastic ring that's way down in there on the end of the CV axle. I always fight with that thing and the pliers I've tried can never quite get in there.

What are you running for wheels and tires ?

Stock factory rims, Wheel spacers ?

Wheel spacers and/or wheels with the wrong offset are the biggest killer of wheel bearings.

Factory alloy rims, factory sized Michelin AT2 tires, no wheel spacers. Pretty sure I can point the finger at the road I commute, I would call that "not a typical use case" for this vehicle.
edit: FYI factory for the offroad package is 31.5" tires
