Our balljoints will last forever, if the boot stays intact. If the boot is torn, the joint is compromised. Just replace them both, because they will fail.

My passenger one has a tear in it, and I'm debating on letting the dealership fix it. They did the driver's side under warrenty, but that was a while ago. Does anyone have a "how to" on doing it? I have the XLT which means I have to compress the spring and get the Ford tool. Just wondering how much time something like that will take.

If their lowers, just replace them. Once the boot is opened, the joint itself is exposed to the elements. The Uppers are part of the control arm and the whole ' arm ' is about 130$.. each. Moog makes a better/toughter upper control arm for around 100$
D. Is that just the drivers side or do you have to replace the whole arm on the passenger side too. I thought you could press them out and press the new ones in.
