I'll start by saying I'm new to this whole thing. I've read some of the threads regarding lifting a 4x4 but I'm still indecisive in what I want to do. I just want my truck to sit level, I've already cranked the torsion keys giving me an extra inch up front but the rear end is still noticeably higher. I don't want to crank it up anymore than it is already, in fact I'd like to take it back a few turns. I don't want to loose the functionality of my shocks. Ideally I want to be sitting 1"-2" higher than I am now up front without having to crank my keys much at all.

I've read that a lift is going to cause my driveshaft to wear out much faster. Is that the case even with such a minor lift?

I'm interested in the pre key mod but is this any better than using forged keys? I've heard really bad things about those. Anyone that's gone with the pre key mod did it have any negative affects on your ride quality?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but is it normal or possible to do a body lift to only the front end of the truck?

Sorry for being such a newb I appreciate any feedback and I'm open to all suggestions but keep in mind I'm on a budget not looking to go with a superlift or long travel hopefully one day.

 

Yes, don't buy those forged aftermarket ones. The 07 and older keys work and don't cause too much strain on your drivetrain. They're easy to replace and should only take 3 hours or so

 

You could only lift the front with a body lift, but it'd look kinda funny. If you got a kit, you'd only use half of it. What about doing the whole body lift and taking out the lift block from the rear. It might be a little closer to level then

 

For the love of all things good in the world, please don't body lift just the front of your truck.

 

Lol! No, I'm going to try out this prekey mod. I'm looking for some pre 2008 torsion keys.

 

I saw you asked about it, so I was just making sure you didn't go that route. I'd do what Morris suggested, and if you want more lift after that, go with a full body lift.

A lot of people are doing coil-over conversion now, removing their torsion bars, so I'm sure you can find some. Might make a post in the classifieds section indicating you want to buy some.

Also.. if you've already cranked the t-bars.. then maybe consider removing the lift block under the leaf springs.. that might take you down more than you want to go, but that's one way to lower the rear.

 

Everyone talks about the problems of using aftermarket torsion keys on their truck. I bought a complete 2in kit from crown suspensions, and just installed the front keys. Truck rides fine, the ride quality difference is barely noticeable. I'd recommend it as long as you don't crank the hell out of the keys. Mine are cranked to a little under 2 inches, which levels it out pretty much with the back, and I sold the rear shackles to a friend.

 

If you are not happy with how much your 08 keys are cranked then switching to an 07 key will be doing the exact same thing but able to go more. All they do is allow more preload (spring tension giving you more height)

Moral of the story is maxxing the 08 keys is exactly like a slight crank on 07 keys. No difference
