I was reading through the "instructions" (lol) that came with the lift spindles i got, and it says i need to use a ball joint separator. Is that needed?

Take a BFH to the spindle. Loosen the ball joint nut, but dont remove it, and give it a HARD whack. It should 'pop' off.

I rented one from AutoZone but I hit the spindle with a hammer and it came loose. I also used a hammer to get the ball-joints out, but I had to use a press to get it back in. I hope you have tires to put on that lifted truck, or its gonna look like mine right now, really stupid. You will be really suprised how much lift the spindles give you. Installing the spindles is not that difficult if you have the right tools, like a breaker bar and some good sockets. I used some cheapo sockets and a 3/8" rachet and broke the rachet.

That's a stretch on a spindle lift...

I used a 3-arm gear puller to get my lower ball joints out. I had already removed the upper balljoints though... might have worked out easier if I'd done the lowers first?

yea, just make sure you dont hit the bolts that have threads, real easy to damage the threads. on the upper arm, hit it upperwards on one on the arms downwards on the spindle. can do the same for the tierod, and then. and th reverse way for the bottom one.
