More of a general question. As I couldn't find the answer anywhere... Do the rear shocks from a 4x4 torsion bars setup ranger work for a 2wd coil spring 2x4 ranger? Mainly via the mounting points? When looking at the 4x4 shock and the 2x4 shock they look identical as far as mounting holes on the shock itself...

I am putting on extended shackles and possibly 1" blocks from a 4x4 if I can find them (If I am not happy with how a 2" lift shackle will raise the rear end), looking at the rear shocks they appear to mount the same?

As you can see the 4x4 version is 2" taller and 2" more travel length, which makes sense since the 4x4's have 2" lift blocks right?

So can I order those to replace mine? I know some will say go with more expensive ones but this is a DD and not a hauler. I actually like the ride quality of my current OESpectrum compared to stock, it's very smooth. Does the fact that I even have coil springs up front dictate anything at all in the rear via shocks...etc?

Also one last question will the ride height change at all because of the taller shocks? OR, is that completely dependent on the leaf springs and shackles? (I'm just trying to fully understand the suspension/lift, since this is the first time lifting a truck via spindles/shackles)

you sure can put the shocks on. u can basically put any shock on u want if it bolts up correctly and the compressed and extended length is the same or close. I have a 2001 4x4 with torsion bars and I have the cheapo monroes from advanced auto. part # 59038 and my extended length is 26.375, compressed is 15.375, travel is 11 inches. I don't rrecomend these cheap ones. I was broke and needed something bad but these are barely any better than the blown ones I took out. theyu only cost 20$ a piece to though. you get what u pay for.

I had on my 01' coil spring ranger the MONROE 37013 {#911013} OESpectrum Light Truck. I don't do much hauling other than to get some stuff from a big box store. But was better than stock, since mine were shot years ago.

I ended up picking up the same style for the rear: MONROE 37014 OESpectrum Light Truck. These were about 2" longer than the previous one I had. I didn't want to chance maxing out the rear shock since I did 2" lift shackles and then just added 2" factory lift blocks. Although it seemed like the stock shock could have handled it this actually firmed up the rear quite a bit. Before I could get on the bed and it would significantly go down, but after the new shocks it's a lot stiffer which is nice.

I don't offroad either so there is no chance of me maxing out the travel of the shock so I think I am going to be ok :-) I'm just happy I gained about 2.3" of travel with the new shock compared to the other one I had. I would like nice shocks but as it sits now with these OEspectra shocks the ride is relatively smooth plus the cost isn't bad at 30 bucks each..lol. If this was a new truck then I'd probably get the more expensive ones but this works out well :-)

my shocks aren't stiff enough. the back end in my truck is much too springy. I'm gonna get new shocks when I can afford it
