Ok so evidently the doner vehicle for the axle had been wrecked, ran into a ditch. Upon assembleing the axle, come to find out the drivers side inner-c is stretched open about 1/8-3/8 of an inch. That was the upper ball joint wouldn't even come close to seating all the way, so, I tried using the balljoint and a 40" peice of pipe to tighten it and squeeze/bend it back down. Either way I would have to replace the inner-c if it didn't work. With about 1/16" of an inch left to go, the c cracked on the outer edge of the balljoint boss. In the middle of an impact area (hammer, ditch, who knows).
I have about 4 dana 44's at my house currently, and luckily a junker chevy 44 that had a good drivers side C on it. Cut it off, cut off the broken c, and today I will put on the good c and weld it up. After I go get the power steering hose made, get some bolts for steering and get more wheel studs. If I can get the C on the axle and welded up no problem, I should get alot accomplished today. Anyways, everyone wants to see pictures.
crack.
Removal, cut off the weld, and grind into the inner c until you can see the crack b/t the c and the tube.
heat up the c, then beat the everyliving hell out of it until you get it to turn, then knock it off.
viola.
Steering box mounted.
One more time.

Hum, didn't realize that the C was bent. I didn't disassemble the axle so I didn't have any way of knowing. Also, the axle had been pulled from the donor vehicle before I stumbled across it at the J/Y. At least it'll be a pretty easy fix.
Jey, you were going to have to rotate the inner c's for proper caster anyway wheren't you?

Gotcha, glad you had an extra inner C on hand. Nice work so far on the fab. Are you going to trim the 90* corners off the spring hangers? Obviously it's mostly cosmetic but it wouldn't hurt to at least round them off or cut them at a 45* angle. Fewer sharp edges to bash your head against.
