Axle Shifting Under Load

Axle Shifting Under Load
Well, I have a new problem. Ever since the mini spool, which I knew I was going to have some seirous problems with...
If I take a corner, lets say right hand corner for example, my axle will shift about 1/2" off center (wheel will be closer to the pass side fender towards the front of the truck) and it makes my steering wheel go off to the left.
I'm basically dog tracking.
But if I make a left hand corner, it corrects this somewhat.
But I make about 3x the right corners as I do left, so I'm left w/ this dog tracking truck!!!
What can I do to fix it?
I was thinking traction bars/ladder bars or chevy springs?
I think I'm going to take out the spool for now, I don't think it's doing me much good ATM...
It's nice to have two wheels spinning, but I don't like dog tracking.
Anyone else have this problem?

the only way to keep it from doing that would be adding a trac bar.....but that is a bandaid fix on a leaf sprung axle.........personally since you don't just drive your truck straight, you need to take the spool out and get a locker.....something that allows the outter wheel to spin faster around corners.........not to mention that your tires will get eat up faster driving a truck with a spool on the street....
what is happining is there is sooooo much pressure on the inner tire when you turn that it trys to push the axle out from under the truck because the spool wont allow the inner tire to slow down around a turn......that is why it is shifting

Well, looks like the spool is coming out...I think I got a sale for it anyway.
It's more or less just seeing pavement right now...we'll see though.

a panhard bar is what is used in a coil spring setup to keep it located. i would find the weak link though.

you cant run the superlift block and the shackle at the same time unless you have a ton of lift.

I just have to make sure I have all the bolts for the stock blocks though.

Probably at about 60ft/lbs right now.
Well, I'm going to swap them this afternoon, see if I can fix my problem. I'll be an inch lower, but hopefully I can help some problems...
What about the JD traction bars?

your problem stems from the spool, not how you have the rear lifted.........yes you may have too much pinion angle, but that would only cause u-joint binding.....it wouldn't cause the axle to shift side to side.....
JD traction bars wont help side to side motion.....the will only help axle wrap......the only way to stop the side to side motion is to either: 1. lose the spool or 2. install a trac bar....

I was just outside messing around, Ubolts are definetly loose when the axle shifts.
I think what I am going to do when I swap the blocks is get the axle dead center and torque to 100ft/lbs. I didn't know they had to be 100...
I just have to make sure I have all the bolts for the blocks.

I think I found the problem, I just posted after you.
When my axle shifts, my u bolts are loose. So I'm guessing that my u bolts aren't tight enough. I'm going to jack the truck up, set it on jack stands, and torque to 100 ft lbs.
When my axle is straight, the u bolts are fine. When it shifts to the left, the right u bolts are loose, when it shifts to the right, the left u bolts are a tiny bit less tight than they were, not by much though.
That explains the sound I have been experiencing, like a creaking..

Any more advice? I am going to put the stock blocks back in, and I'm going to straighten the axle with no weight on it, and torque to 100ft/lbs.

I TOLD YOU SO!
Seriously though, a spool does not belong on a daily driven truck, no matter what yahoo says it's fine and no problems, lol.

But yahoo said it was ok
Well, I think I'm keeping it in for a little bit longer...I just have to figure out this problem and then I'm golden!
