Hey, I know I should search more but I would really like to be specific with my model and year of truck. I have a 98 XLT, short cab, 2wd and step side.
I like educate myself before I make a decision. I would really love to do a 2/3" drop or just level out the truck maybe 2" in the back. I would like to keep this project pretty inexpensive due to 255k on my baby.

I was searching an I am assuming for a 3" lower that a flip kit with riser blocks (with no notch) would be the best and most inexpensive way to lower the rear. I would also like to lower the front 2" with springs. I am just wondering if I would need anything else other than an alignment for my demands.

most in expansive way to lower the rear is FLIP the REAR leaf hanger and shackel in the back.. gets 100% 2" drop. then throw on some 2" drop springs if you want. for the rear it will just cost you 8 grade 8 or better bolts and nuts around $15.. if a hanger is **** or shackel there like $23 for the hanger and like $24 for the shackel at the dealer they usually have this in stock...

Yeah cheapest way to do the back for a minor drop is flip the rear hangers, if you leave the front stock it will level out your truck if you put drop coils in the front you will still have a rake once the coils settle.

I would suggest the DJM 2/3 kit its a clean looking drop for the price which is around 200. It has 2 inch drop coils up front and a flipkit out back which puts the axle on top of the leafs with lifting shackles since with stock shackles the flipkit will give you 5 inches. You should be able to align it with stock cams to. There is no need for a notch with such a minor drop anything more than 5 inches you would definitely need a bolt in notch though. hate to say it once you start lowering you will just want to go lower its a disease. Same for the lifted guys once you start you cant stop.

Youll be fine with a 2/3 Im dropped 5/7 and I live in cleveland and have no issue of going through of 6-7 inches of snow.

 

would it be wise to get the dropped shocks as well? or are they not really neccesary with a 2/3 drop? and I'm assuming that you would definately want them with the 4/5?

 

You can get away with stock shocks up to 2/3 anymore it will ride bad definitely need to with 4/5.

So this weekend or the following me and a buddy are going to flip the hangers. But I would like a little bit more precise directions on how to do it. Do you take the right shackle and put it on the left upside down and opposite for other side? And why did you need the torch will and angle grinder do the trick?

 

you need to drill out or grind off the rivits on the HANGER that attaches to the frame. then take the shackel and HANGER and flip them 180 deg upside down. then rebolt the hanger to the frame....if you look at that thread i have a finised pic of what the hanger should look like
