2006 Ranger Lift 4wd

First off I'm a new guy here but active reader. MY question is, what can I do for a lift for a 4wd ranger? it's a 4.0 Auto and has 33x12.50R15 on it with a tbar 2 inch right now. I'd rather stay away from body lifts and the superlift kit. Was looking at coilover conversions but RCD doesn't make em anymore. Having a hard time finding something or even ideas. Any help would be appreciated Btw budget isn't too much of in issue, i can wait a bit for a good kit. I have access to a fab shop and know a fabricator if I end up needing one (Hope I put this in the right forum section)

Your only legit suspension lift option is a super lift. Why don't you like it? You could always get a super lift and then convert to coil overs up front.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a body lift. No idea why so many people dislike them. Cheap, easy, and 100% safe.

Other than that, do coilovers conversion that a member sells if you want coilovers. It won lift, but you can do the super lift, which is a huge waste IMO.

I don't know if I would say they are a waste. It's all about what you want. He said his budget wasn't too big of an issue. And he could probably find a good deal on a used one too.

It's not that I hate the superlift. It's just having to change the drive shaft eventually and the blocks in the rear doesn't make me too comfortable. I did forget to mention, I plan on taking it to the trails here in Colorado and out in cali. If it comes down to it I'll do the superlift or a sas

Yeah the drive line is kinda the crappy part. There are ways to eliminate the superlift block like using skyjacker leafs instead. If you really want a good off road rig go with a solid axle. I contemplated doing a superlift but then I ended up just getting a d44 hp front axle and a dana 60 rear axle instead that I am currently rebuilding to throw under my truck when I get all the parts. Superlift's aren't bad or anything but I just don't want to deal with ranger ifs parts because they just aren't built that well for off highway driving IMO. Even right now with my 31's I'm wearing parts out faster than I would like to be.

Nice lol I know a guy with a lifted subie. But like I was saying, it's really up to what your needs are. If you think a superlift will get you by then go for it. If not, go for a solid axle.

Well would you want to run coils or leafs? I'm going to run leafs because I think it is a little easier IMO.

A sas is a BIG job. I'm doing a lot of research to try and cover all my tracks when I finally get to the point where I can tackle it. Research is a must.

Hmmmm I haven't done a lot of reading on coils but I think early bronco dana 44's came with coils. Or you could narrow (or run it full width with the matching 9 inch rear) a dana 44 from an f150 from the late 70's I believe. They are set up to run radius arms and coils and they are high pinion axles which is a big plus IMO. I'm pretty sure the EB dana 44's were low pinions but dont quote me.

I'm also not a fan of blocks in the rear, you could (like mentioned) use skyjacker's or a pair of deavers might work.

Well, I say they are a waste for two reasons.

1, the amount it costs is about the same as an SAS.

2, the torsion bars still hang low. Any added ground clearance is basically gone thanks to that. Hence, why do it?

For the same price and a little bit more time, you could SAS and have more clearance, more articulation, etc.

As for the rear.

Chevy 64's

Easy to do, ditches the block, better ride, more travel, can haul more, etc. My favorite mod I've done by far.

So upon further research, I'll be doing a SAS. I can't justify the pros and cons with the superlift and I think a SAS would end up better in the end instead of wasting money on "for now" things. I'll be getting Chevy 64s thanks to 06FordFX4 and going coilovers. Will be selling my brush guard and wheels here soon before the SAS so hoping I get a few hundred off of those towards it.

I'll be going with dana 44s and 35s. My friend will be doing a coilover conversion on my setup now so the dana can wait a bit until I find a decent one. Excited to get this build going

Welcome to the board, I'm in Thornton as well. There is a guy in Parker that does SAS on Ford Rangers all the time. I would get in touch with him. He quoted me $1800 to do one on mine. He uses the dana 30s with coils out of the cherokees, but he does use different axles upon request.

Here's a picture of the latest one he did for a local member on FordRangerForum

When I did the coilover with rob I noticed the ground clearance increased. Nothing hangs down anymore. It's nice.
